PHOENIX -- A crash on SR 51 northbound led to a huge rush hour traffic backup on Thursday evening.
The crash was north of Northern Avenue. Traffic was jammed all the way back to Interstate 10.
An SUV hit the wall, rolled over and caught fire, according to a spokesman for the Arizona Department of Public Safety. The driver was injured but is expected to survive.
The Arizona Department of Transportation was advising drivers to avoid the area.
Traffic was getting by in the left lane and the HOV lane. Earlier, only the HOV lane was opened.
All lanes were reopened at about 6:00 p.m.
