PHOENIX -- Downtown Phoenix is going to be all lit up Saturday for the APS Electric Light Parade.

It’s the 27th year of the parade and the event keeps growing. APS vehicles as well as vehicles from mom-and-pop shops and corporations get decked out in Christmas lights for the parade.

There are a total of 72 entries in the parade this year, 11 of which are from APS.

“We’ve got balloons, we got marching bands, it’s going to be a spectacular evening,” said Terry Ricketts, events manager at APS.

The theme for the 2013 parade is “Wild West Holiday Roundup.” The parade starts on Central Avenue at Montebello, moves south to Camelback Road, turns east on Seventh Street, and ends at Indian School Road.

The parade is a great family event for the holidays and is free.

“To me what means the most is the smiles and the laughter, the screams and yells from the kids,” Ricketts said.

Ricketts advised getting a spot at Missouri and Central avenues to watch the parade. The APS Electric Light Parade begins at 7 p.m., but be sure to arrive early for a good spot.
