NOGALES, Ariz. -- A Mexican national was arrested for attempting to smuggle more than half a million dollars worth of methamphetamine into the United States.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Mariposa Port of Entry referred the man for an additional inspection of his Mazda sedan when he attempted to cross the border on Saturday.

A K-9 alerted to the presence of drugs in the front bumper and officers discovered 31 packages of crystal meth worth $509,454.

The nearly 33 pounds of meth were seized and the man was referred to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations.
