I am so lucky to have a group of very talented writers on my team at www.managedmoms.com. Three of those writers are top beauty experts in their field, so I was curious what their top picks are when it comes to beauty products. Read on to see what the pros recommend when it comes to your beauty budget selections.
The Beauty Expert Panel
*Karen Hall, Celebrity/Professional Makeup Artist – Karen has been in the business for over 30 years dolling up the likes of Paula Abdul, Faith Hill, Conan O’Brian and many more. She is also the official makeup artist for our “Your Life A to Z” show and we are all big fans of her work! She has a good assortment of tried and true products, tips and tricks when it comes to not only looking good on camera or in a photograph, but also in your everyday life. You can learn more about Karen and book her for a makeup lesson and makeover at www.johnhallphotography.com. Some of Karen's faves include:
*Dermablend Cover Cream – (sold at United Beauty Supply stores & Ulta Beauty Supply stores $22 to $30) – Karen says that Dermablend is highly pigmented, so not much is needed for a beautiful finish. Several Broadway actors have come on our show and told us that they too, use Dermablend to get great coverage with a perfect finish.
*Prisma Ebony Eyebrow Pencil – (sold at Arizona Art Supply for only 73 cents!) I’ve noticed that my eyebrows are thinning out in my 40s, so Karen uses this art pencil on my brows and it works great! This art pencil makes it easy to draw in hairs to fill in the bare areas. Having defined brows makes a huge difference for the finished look, too.
*Cover Girl Outlast Stay On Lipsticks – (sold at drug stores) – Karen says that this is the lipstick that will stay on through anything.
MAC Harmony Blush or Soft Beige by La Femme – (MAC is sold in MAC stores and in department stores & La Femme is sold at United Beauty Supply Stores in the Phoenix area for only $3.99) - Karen likes both of these products because they can be used both as a bronzer and blush all in one, so that helps our beauty budget, too.
MAC Lip Liners in Plum and Hover (sells for $15 at Nordstrom's and MAC stores) – Karen tells me that both of these provide the perfect consistency.
MAC Lip Gloss in Purr (sells for $15) – Karen loves the Purr shade because it is the perfect finishing touch and I agree as I use this too, based on her recommendations!
La Femme Eye Shadow in Beige Pink ($3.99 at United Beauty Supply stores) -- This is one of Karen’s faves because it can be used as a natural highlighter anywhere on the face and on the collar bones, shoulders and more.
Bianca Malmstrom – Walgreens Beauty Expert – If you have been watching the show, then you probably know that Bianca gives me a monthly list of terrific drug store beauty products that all sell for under $10 and this is one expert who knows her stuff! She also keeps track of customer faves, trends and which products consistently deliver. Her top picks are:
*L’Oreal Revitalift Double Lifting – ($17.49 at Walgreens) – This stuff is a 1 minute lifting day treatment that works as an Ultra Concentrated Lifting Gel and an anti-wrinkle moisturizing cream, so you get two products in one. Bianca tells me that this product was featured on Dr. Oz, so she has had a lot of customers come in requesting this item that has both Pro-Retinol and Pro-Tensium E.
*L’Oreal True Match Naturale – ($15.99 at Walgreens) – Bianca says that this product is one of her #1 top sellers. Customers tell her that it is comparable to Bare Minerals and it continues to be a top customer favorite. Plus with Titanium Dioxide Sunscreen included, it provides SPF 19 coverage, too.
*CoverGirl Outlast All Day Lipcolor – ($11.49 at Walgreens) – Just as Karen Hall also says, Bianca agrees, that this lip stick is the one to buy because is outlasts every lip color. Bianca tells me that this is the #1 pick for brides who need a lipstick that will hold up all day and night on the big wedding day.
*L’Oreal Elnett Satin Hair Spray – ($15.99 at Walgreens) -- I wasn’t surprised to see this as one of Bianca’s beauty picks because I have seen this hair spray listed in countless best of lists in numerous beauty magazines. Bianca says that this top Walgreens seller works great for color treated hair and provides extra strong hold with a UV filter, too.
Angelic Papadakis, owner of Backstage Salon & Spa in Tempe – I have followed Angelic for 15 years and I am ecstatic that her own beauty shop is doing so well! Located on McClintock and Guadalupe, her salon is filled with talented stylists and happy customers of all ages! She has done my hair and my entire family’s gets cuts and styles from her as well. Learn more about Backstage Salon & Day Spa and book an appointment at www. http://www.backstagesalonandspa-tempe.com/Home_Page.html Angelic likes:
*Cricket Amp Up Teasing Brush – ($6 at Backstage Salon & Spa) – Karen Hall agrees with Angelic about this being a terrific teasing brush. To increase volume, try this brush for all of your styles, especially updos.
*Rusk Being Sexy Mousse – ($15 at Backstage Salon & Spa) – Angelic says that this mousse is ideal for daily use for all hair types. Distribute at the base of the scalp to create volume, body and control. Angelic tells me that this product features “fision hair” that energizes hair and scalp, plus this mousse will create waves and curl separation, while giving hair a great shine.
*By Slush Gloss by Framesi – ($20 at Backstage Salon & Spa) -- This is a restructuring serum that gives extra shine and revitalizes dry hair while smoothing. Angelic says to get the best results, massage it into hair, paying special attention to the ends. This product also contains UV protection.
A Few of My Recent Finds
I am not a true expert like Karen, Bianca and Angelic, but I get to test a lot of beauty products for the show and for my website. Here are a few I recently received to try out…
*Repechage Eye Rescue Pads ($33.98 for a box of 60 pads) – Since I sport tired mom eyes a lot, I was interested in trying these eye pads that are infused with green and black tea along with seaweed. The pads did not disappoint and were soothing and cool to my puffy eyes. A 10 minute treatment is recommended for the best results and not only did my eyes look better in time to get ready for my night out, but they felt better, too. The eye pads are sold at the website at www.repechage.com and a list of local spas that sell the product is listed on the website, too.
*Freeze 24-7 Miracle Kit -- ($125 (a $220 value) at www.freeze247.com and at Nordstrom's) -- I like that this is an alternative to Botox and that the products comes in a kit, making it easy to try this anti-aging line. The kit includes Ice Crystals Anti Aging Prep & Polish, Instant Targeted Wrinkle Treatment, Eyecing Fatigue Fighting Eye Cream and Ice Cream Intensive Anti Aging Moisturizer. I found the products to be soothing and somewhat effective in reducing lines. I also like that the kit rates a low concern in the Skin Deep Beauty database for toxic ingredients, making this a much better alternative to Botox, in my opinion.
