Summer means fun and free time for the kids, but it also brings boredom, as well as dry climate issues that affect our bodies, too.  So I've put together some summer solutions.  First I have some unique ideas for at home fun that are inexpensive and creative and will give your kiddos hours of fun.  I also have some remedies for dry summer skin issues like Eczema, dry eyes and more.  So read on for summer solutions to get you through the season.
At Home Fun Activities For The Kids
*Prime Time Water Toys -- If you are like us and don't have a pool, we still have fun in our back yard with the season's newest water toys.  Three new water toys to hit store shelves this summer are by Prime Time Toys.  They include the Max Liquidator Luminator, the Hydro Blaster Power Refill Combo and the Splash Sports Pack.  We put the toys to the test with my 11-year old daughter and her 10-year-old gal pal and they loved all three toys.  The Max water gun lights up, the Hydro Blaster comes with a handy bucket so that the kids can refill on the run and the Splash Sports Pack is great for all ages with a splash bat, splash balls and more.  The Luminator sells for $9.99 and the Hydro Blaster costs $12.99 and both are sold at Target and Wal-Mart.  The Splash Sports Pack costs $9.99 and is sold at Target.  For more information visit www.primetimetoys.com.
*The Happy Trunk -- Check out this unique idea to keep creative kids busy.  This is truly creativity in a box.  The Happy Trunk is the answer to keeping young minds thinking and exploring during summer break. This wonderful box of surprises is overflowing with arts & crafts, science experiments and creative play items. There are two trunks to choose from: one for 3-7 year olds and one for 8-11 year olds and each box comes with all the materials and instructions that kids need to make unique projects like homemade fizzy bath balls, mini soap bars, fluttering butterflies, sand art and more.  Plus it is mailed to your door, which is easy for parents and fun for the kids to receive.  Simply sign up for a subscription and The Happy Trunk is conveniently delivered right to your door each month.  Monthly subscriptions start at $19.95.  The customer service folks at The Happy Trunk are also happy to take questions via phone or email from parents and kids if they need help putting one of the cool crafts together.  For more information, visit www.thehappytrunk.com.
*Bobbi-Toads -- Here's an activity that girls will adore.  An at home pedicure can be taken a step further with fun sneakers that can be painted with nail polish colors.  Bobbie Toads shoes are fashionable shoes and a fun and creative activity, too.  Girls can use Bobbi-Polish (sells for $7.99 on the site) or their favorite non-toxic nail polish to paint the Bobbi-Toad shoes and when she is ready to switch up her style and change colors, she can simply use or any non-toxic nail polish remover to remove the old polish.  This can be done on the same Bobbi Toads pair over and over again for hours of endless fashion and fun.  Bobbi-Toads come with laces or Velcro and are available in fun colors like purple, pink, green and blue. For more information visit www.bobbitoads.com.
*Wikki Stix One-of-a-Kind Creatables -- Since the first time my kids received Wikki Stix at a restaurant (I was so impressed that the restaurant brought out a fun activity), I have this toy.  Wikki Stix are made from a wax and yarn formula. They are non-toxic and endlessly reusable. Wikkies stick to any surface and to each other. so kids can easily make their family, house, letters, numbers, anything that they can imagine. Wikki Stix are also great for toys on the go because they are quiet, mess-free and provide hours of entertainment.  Prices start at $5.50 and can be ordered at wikkistix.com.  Another cool thing about Wikki Stix is that they are made here in Phoenix and I love supporting local businesses.  For more information visit www.wikkistix.com.
Summer Skincare Solutions & More
Problem:  Injuries & bruising due to summer activates & exposed legs wearing shorts.
Solution:  Boiron Arnicare Arnica Gel -- This homeopathic medicine is paraben-free, works naturally and is quickly absorbed.  In the summer, I constantly bruise my exposed legs (since I'm wearing shorts), so I was thrilled to find out about this product that reduces discoloration from bruising.  It also provides relief for muscle pains and stiffness due to minor injuries (common in the summer when the kids are on summer break) like falls or overexertion.  Arnicare sells for $10.99 and you can get a dollar off coupon on my blog at www.managedmoms.com.  It is also sold at Whole Foods, Walgreens, CVS, Vitamin Shoppe, Sprouts Farmers Market and some health food stores, too.
Problem:  Eczema
Solution:  Toe Juice by Dermavine is one of my favorite products because it successfully treats Eczema and a variety of other head-to-toe needs, too.  Toe Juice by Dermavine is sold at Walgreens and treats ailments like Eczema, athlete’s foot, warts and more.  I was thrilled when they came out with travel sizes.  The 4.6 fluid ounce size sells for $16.99 and the travel size goes for $7.84 and they both sell at Walgreens and be sure to visit my website at www.managedmoms.com to get a $1 coupon off of Toe Juice or visit www.toejuice.com.
Problem:  Dry flaky forehead & facial skin
Solution:  Elizabeth Arden Visible Difference Skin Balancing Exfoliating Cleanser ($20 at www.ElizabethArden.com or at some local Macy's stores) -- Our show makeup expert, Professional/Celebrity Makeup Artist Karen Hall, tells me that it is important to exfoliate weekly to rid the face of impurities and dry skin.  When I listen to her and use my Elizabeth Arden exfoliating cleanser, I see a big reduction in those annoying dry skin flakes, especially in our hot dry summer months.

Problem:  Dry eyes, especially for contact wearers
Solution:  Nature's Tears EyeMist All Natural Dry Eye Moisture ($13.99 at
www.healthenterprises.com/natures-tears-eyemist)-- An easier alternative to eye drops, this all natural moisture for the eyes is actually an easy to use spray.  Easier to apply, mess-free and more soothing than drops, Nature’s Tears EyeMist is an all-natural dry eye product that instantly rehydrates with no burn, sting or blur. Safe to use while wearing contacts, which is good news for me and my constantly dry eyes.
Problem:  Runny eye makeup due to sweat or swimming for me and for my tween girl
Solution:  Ava Skin Eye Makeup Remover Pads ($14.95 for 50 pads) -- I love this line because the entire collection of 60+ products (beauty, anti-aging, skin, home, baby and pet) are organic, non-toxic and come in environmentally friendly packaging. All of the ingredients used in Ava Anderson Non-Toxic products score a '0' on the Cosmetic Database¹s toxicity scale, which is the lowest number that is awarded, so I feel good about my tween daughter using it for her own eye makeup removing, especially in the summer with all of the swimming that she does.  It is also interesting to note that Ava founded her company at the young age of 14, when she discovered that many beauty lines billed as "organic" and "natural" still contained harmful chemicals. She has a large celebrity following including Alicia Silverstone, Kelly Preston and Laila Ali.  To order and for more information visit http://www.avaandersonnontoxic.com.
Problem:  Our super powerful Arizona sun and kids want to swim every day if they can!
Solution:  Protect them with UPF 50+ swimwear from The Children's Place like the cute Rash Guard Swim shirts for boys that I show in the segment that sell for $14.95 and the pretty pink girls UPF 50+ Tankini that sells for $14.95 at the same store.
Problem:  Sunburn
Solution:  SunBum SPF 50+ Advanced Broad Spectrum UVA/UVB Protection With Parsol AND SunBum Cool Down Soothing and Cooling Aloe Vera Dry Touch Body Oil -- With Arizona being the #2 place in the world for skin cancer (right behind the #1 place Australia), it is imperative that we first protect our kids and ourselves with a good sunscreen like Sun Bum SPF 50+ that sells for $15.99 at TrustTheBum.com.  This easy to use, ultra sheer/dry touch continuous spray formula protects your skin from harmful UVA/UVB rays while enriching skin with Vitamin E.  This soothing formula also has cooling Aloe Vera, cucumber extract and Vitamin E.  Order for $$15.99 at www.TrustTheBum.com.
And if you do get a sunburn, have the SunBum Cool Down Soothing and Cooling Aloe Vera Dry Touch Body Oil on hand for treatment and relief.  Sun Bum’s ‘Cool Down’ Continuous Spray Aloe Vera is enriched with soothing Aloe, Cucumber Extract and Vitamin E, providing an intense hydration to gently restore the skin’s natural moisture balance. The light, dry touch formula is quickly absorbed, leaving the skin smooth and soft.  This sells for $11.99 at TrustTheBum.com
So that does it for all of my summer solutions for now.  I'm sure there are more summer challenges that I didn't think of, so let me know your favorite hot weather remedy.  Talk to me at my website and managedmoms.com and have a happy summer season!
