Ready or not, it’s that time again. Let the holiday shopping season begin. I did some shopping to see what’s out there this year for the different personalities on your list. Plus, I have a few gift ideas that will keep you on a budget, too.
*For the charitable cook – Pretty potholders that are handmade by an Ahwatukee woman named Erika Stewart. Erika, and her husband Charles, sell these pot holders and use 100% of the proceeds to buy bikes for kids in need, just in time for the holidays. I love this concept! The Stewarts have been doing this for the last three years. A pretty set of two pot holders sell for $10 and they come in all sorts of colors and designs. Once all of the pot holders are sold, the Stewarts take the money and head to Wal-Mart and buy as many bicycles as they can to donate to the Kyrene Resource Center in Tempe. This is a great gift, handmade by a local woman and her entire family sells them so that they can give back to the community. I bought a beautiful blue set for my sister-in-law and a cool black and white set for myself! To buy a set, email Erika at EStewart12@cox.net or call 602-432-4310.
*For the family cook – Family Circle Healthy Family Dinners Cookbook ($19.99 in bookstores) – Cooking for a family night after night can be tricky and tedious, so I was thrilled to find a new cookbook that contains more than 200 recipes and this cookbook only costs $20. Plus I like Family Circle magazine, so I thought I would like the cookbook, that is by the magazine editors, and I do. Most of the recipes have pictures and I love to see photos of the meals that I attempt to make. The recipes are quick, easy and healthy with entrees that include salads, pastas, vegetarian dishes, slow cooker faves and more.
*For the little cook in the family – B is for Baking: 50 Yummy Dishes to Make Together ($16.95 in bookstores) – For families with kids who like to cook with Mom or Dad, Sesame Street characters share over 50 yummy kid-pleasing recipes for breakfast lunch and dinner. Each recipe incorporates skills that include counting, identifying shapes and nutritional tidbits about healthy eating. A fun family gift.
**Also in this category is Spongebob’s Kitchen Mission Cookbook ($16.99 in bookstores) -- Lots of colorful recipes, as one would expect, but also some educational sections about food safety, kitchen safety, cooking terms, measuring techniques and more.

*For the gel mani/pedi gal – Gel manicures and pedicures are all the rage, so I was intrigued to find a new over-the-counter gel nail polish. Nutra Nail Gel Perfect UV-Free Gel-Color enables you to now give yourself a gel manicure or pedicure at home without the UV light and the line also sells the remover, making it easy to remove the gel. The Nutra Nail No-Mess Express Gel Perfect Remover removes the gel polish in less than two minutes. If you have friends or family who are addicted to the gel manicures (like I am), this is a great gift idea. I must warn you, though, I haven't tried this out for myself.
