1 or 2 Bags of Trader Joe's Red, White & Blue Tortilla Chips
Yep, that's it! Simply grab a bag of the fun and festive chips that Trader Joe's sells or you can mix your own, since most stores sell blue and red chips. Put your red salsa in the middle dip dish and surround with the chips and you have a fun and festive chip dish. So easy!
Festive Fruit Salad
Desired amount of strawberries
Desired amount of blueberries
Desired amount of watermelon
Small star cookie cutter
My friend texted me this idea and I changed it up just a little bit. Cut strawberries into half slices and put in bowl. Slice watermelon and cut into small star shapes with a star shaped cookie cutter. I found the mini star sizes at Sur La Table. This makes your red stars. To make white stars, slice the end off of a large strawberry and using a large slice, use the star cookie cutter to get the white part of the strawberry to be star-shaped. You can also make a little round pocket in the middle of the white strawberry star and place a blueberry inside. Mix in the stars and sprinkle blueberries into salad, dispersing them all around. Top with a little confectioner's sugar and serve in a white bowl for more emphasis. An easy and tasty fruit salad!
Healthy Spirit Smoothie
The wonderful folks from the very healthy Pomegranate Cafe gave me this fun layered smoothie recipe that is delicious and good for you, too. Here is how you whip it up...
1 1/2 cups of chopped watermelon
1/4 cup cantaloupe, peeled, seeded & chopped
1/2 cup fresh or frozen strawberries
1/2 cup fresh or frozen blueberries
fresh squeezed orange juice
organic whipped cream
fresh blueberries & watermelon star to garnish
Simply mix all measured ingredients in blender, then pour into clear glass to show the red color and top with whipped cream, blueberries and place one or two watermelon stars on top.
Red, White & Blue Fruit Flag
My friend texted me this image and it is so easy to do, that I simply followed it from the texted picture on my phone! Here is what you need and what you do...
1 to 2 bunches of bananas, depending on how large you want flag to be
2 boxes of strawberries
1 box of blueberries
1 package of skewer sticks
Slice bananas into thick slices. After washing strawberries and blueberries, set aside. Cut green leaf ends off of strawberry and thread stick through the entire berry, placing it on the bottom of the stick. Next thread a banana slice through the stick, so that it is placed on top of the strawberry. Continue this process two to three times, depending on how large you want the flag to be and on the length of your skewer. You will be able to eye it once you start stacking the skewer with the fruit. Leave space at the top of your skewer to add 6 to 8 blueberries. Lay stick down on square platter and do the next three sticks the same way. As you lay them out, side by side, you will be able to see the image of the American flag appear, with the blueberries forming the stars. Prepare the rest of the skewers without blueberries on the top since the rest of the flag is just red and white. Once you have filled the pan with all the skewers and laid them out side by side, your fruit salad sticks look like a displayed American flag. A fun, festive and yummy idea!
