Did you know that November is National Pomegranate Month?  So to celebrate this festive red fruit,  let's have some fun with a pomegranate.  Read on to see why this fruit is so healthy, how to pick a ripe one and how to make a pretty pomegranate holiday cocktail.  Plus, I've also included a few of my beauty product picks that are infused with pomegranate.

Pomegranate's Pleasing Health Benefits
Fresh pomegranates are available from September through January, so they perfectly in season right now.  Rich in antioxidants, potassium and fiber, this is a fruit that is good for your body.  And some studies have shown that pomegranate juice may lower the risk of heart attacks and protect against prostate cancer, so pass the pomegranate to the girls and the guys!

Picking the Perfect Pomegranate
Look for red and unbroken skin and hold it in your hand to feel how heavy the fruit feels because the heavier the pomegranate, the juicer it will be inside.  Size ranges from an orange to a grapefruit.

Getting the Pesky Seeds Out!
The best way to get to the yummy seeds is to deseed the fruit underwater.  Work with caution because pomegranate juice will stain everything!  To do this, cut off the crown with a sharp knife.  Then cut off the other end.  Next score or cut through the pomegranate into four even sections, without cutting the seeds.  Then place the scored fruit into a bowl of water and soak for 5 minutes or until you can gently break the fruit apart.  As you do this, the seeds will come loose.  Then strain and you've got healthy, edible and delicious pomegranate seeds!

Let's Make a Pretty Pom Champagne Cocktail
Perfect for a holiday spirit, I love this easy and pleasing drink that I call the Pretty Pom Champagne Cocktail.  Simply fill half of a champagne glass with pomegranate juice then top with champagne.  To give it a festive look, top with pomegranate seeds.  You can also make this non-alcoholic by using a sparkling water or a cool drink called HINT Water in Pomegranate-Tangerine, which gives it a fruity and fun kick.  Cheers!
