Reporter
"There's no place like home." Dorothy may have been one of the first people to utter the words, but Carina Sonn, now home after several years in the Midwest, sure knows what Dorothy was talking about.
Carina graduated Magna Cum Laude from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University and traveled to Austin, Minnesota - Spamtown, USA - only a week after that. And so began her stint in America's heartland.
She spent a little over a year at KAAL, shooting, writing and editing her own general assignment and consumer stories... often in freezing temperatures, navigating through the fields and county roads of Minnesota, Iowa and occasionally Wisconsin (without GPS!)
After that, Carina traveled to the slightly warmer climate of Tulsa, Oklahoma where she worked at KOTV as the morning show reporter and fill in anchor. There Carina got even more experience covering city politics, and crime along with her first flood, tornado and record-breaking ice storm.
From there, Carina headed north to Chicago where she worked for the Fox News Channel's Midwest Bureau. Carina covered everything from the murders of singer Jennifer Hudson's family members on the city’s south side, to the arrest of former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich as well as the Christmas day bombing attempt in Detroit.
Carina has made appearances on CNN, The Weather Channel, CBS' The Early Show as well as Sky News in the UK... and recalls proudly the time she's been made fun of on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and the Late Show with David Letterman on both of the shows spoof reels.
When she's not chasing news with the rest of her AZ Family members, Carina likes to read, (attempt to) workout and cook, and visit all of her old favorite Valley spots with husband Scott.
Carina is always looking for great story ideas - and restaurant recommendations! If you'd like to get in contact, email her at csonn@azfamily.com
