Mike Watkiss is an award-winning reporter who has covered many of the major stories of this generation.

From Singapore to Sicily, from Switzerland to the jungles of El Salvador, Watkiss has crisscrossed the globe in pursuit of the news. He reported from Ground Zero shortly after the attack on the World Trade Center. He covered the 2000 presidential election crisis from Palm Beach, Fla. He was in the streets of Los Angeles during the Rodney King riots and reported from the epicenter following the deadly North Ridge earthquake.

Watkiss was one of the first reporters at the crime scene the morning the bodies of Ron Goldman and Nicole Brown Simpson were discovered. Watkiss then went on to cover the criminal trial of O.J. Simpson.

He also covered the scandals surrounding singer Michael Jackson, Hollywood madam Heidi Fleiss and ice skater Tonya Harding.

During his career, Watkiss has interviewed thousands of news-makers around the world. He has interviewed people as diverse as "Night Stalker" serial killer Richard Ramirez, notorious Texas "Pom Pom Mom" Wanda Webb Hollaway and superstar Elizabeth Taylor.

Watkiss joined News Channel 3 in August 1996 as a general assignment reporter. Prior to that, he worked as a freelance producer for two Paramount syndicated shows, "Hard Copy" and "Real TV." For nearly eight years, Watkiss also worked on the syndicated news magazine "A Current Affair," first as a general assignment reporter based in New York, and later as the Los Angeles bureau chief and West Coast correspondent.

Watkiss began his career as a radio reporter and talk show host in his hometown of Salt Lake City. He also served as the news director of a country and western radio station in Boise, Idaho. His first television job was with the ABC affiliate in Salt Lake City, where he worked his way from general assignment reporter to the head of the station's investigative/consumer protection unit.

During his time at 3TV, Watkiss has covered other major events, including the trial of Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh from Denver, reaction to McVeigh's execution from Oklahoma City, the search for John Kennedy Jr.'s plane from the shores of Cape Cod and the death and funeral of Princess Diana from London.

Watkiss has an undergraduate degree in anthropology from Stanford University. He also holds a master's degree in journalism from Columbia University in New York.
