Tanya Mendis joined Arizona's Family in January 2014.
The New England native is continuing her journey across the Southwest. She spent more than three years in Albuquerque anchoring the No. 1 weekend morning show in New Mexico.
When she wasn't on the anchor desk, Tanya was winning awards from the front lines of wildfires, including an award for her contribution to the station's coverage of the Las Conchas Wildfire in 2011, which she field anchored for three days.
Tanya brings a decade of storytelling experience to the Valley of the Sun.
Prior to Albuquerque, she spent five years in Chattanooga, Tenn., where she performed almost every role in the newsroom -- reporting, producing, anchoring and serving as one of the station's managing editors.
Tanya has a master's degree from Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism, where she also spent time as a Capitol Hill correspondent for several television and radio stations across the country.
Tanya got her start interning at WCVB in Boston where the consumer reporter tried to convince her to go to law school instead.
"The best decision I ever made was not taking her advice," Tanya says, calling her job "one of the most humbling and rewarding things you can do."
In her free time, Tanya can be found bargain hunting in the mall, hiking and exploring some of the beautiful trails in Arizona. If you see a rowdy fan in a Boston baseball cap, that's probably her!
