An award-winning journalist whose stories have taken her all over the country, Karen Brown joined 3TV as a reporter and weekend anchor in August 2013.

Before moving to Phoenix, she was a correspondent for CBS News. In addition to reporting for all of the network’s new shows, as well as for CBS affiliates throughout the U.S., Brown also filled in on the anchor desk for “CBS Up to the Minute”, “CBS Morning News” and “CBS Money Watch.”

Brown is no stranger to Arizona, having covered the Tucson Massacre in January 2011, and later the competency hearing of confessed shooter Jared Lee Loughner. In May 2011, she sat down for an exclusive interview with Ron Barber, a member for Congresswoman Gabby Giffords’ staff and one of Loughner’s victims.

A native of Orange County, Calif., Brown graduated from The University of California-Los Angeles. She started her career as an editorial assistant for KNBC in L.A. in 1991. She then became a field producer, earning an Emmy award for her work on O.J. Simpson’s criminal trial.

In 1996, Brown moved to the on-camera side of broadcast journalism, becoming a reporter and fill-in anchor for KSBY in San Luis Obispo, Calif.

Her career took her to KVBC in Las Vegas, back to KNBC, KNTV in San Francisco, back to L.A. for NBC News, and finally New York.

Throughout her career, Brown has gotten to know people who have persevered when the very worst was thrown at them. Talking to people and sharing their stories are just two of the things she loves about her job.

“People are amazing -- no matter if they are dealing with horrible violence, like Giffords’ shooting in Tucson, or escaping into revelry for an evening, like in Mardi Gras,” Brown said. “I believe, at their very core, folks care about each other, come together when they need to, and just want to be able to take care of themselves and their families.”

Now that she’s part of Arizona’s Family, it’s your stories that Brown wants to tell.

If you have a story idea, drop her an e-mail or connect with her on social media.

You can catch Brown’s pieces on “Good Evening Arizona.” She’s on the news desk with Steve Ryan Sundays at 5 p.m. and 9 p.m.
