GCU Luggage Lug
Grand Canyon University will welcome the largest group of incoming students in its history when classes resume Aug. 25 on the burgeoning Phoenix campus. GCU's class of 5,500 new students carries an average incoming GPA of more than 3.5 and will have several new academic programs to choose from. The school is ramping up its science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) offerings with degrees in computer science and information technology in 2014-15, followed by three engineering programs the following year. 
 
Kid's Closet Sale
Kid's Closet Connection is a local semi-annual sale connecting people who want to sell gently-used children's items to those who want to purchase quality kid's items at a fraction of retail prices. Our next sale is August 21-23 at East Valley Center, 240 W Warner in Chandler.  Seller drop-off is Mon/Tues, Aug 18-19 and our pre-sales are Wednesday, August 20. Most items remaining on August 23 are marked down 50 percent.

Mellow's Way Back Wednesday
This month, Mellow Mushroom is celebrating their 40th Anniversary, by throwing back prices to reflect some of the orginal menu prices of 1974.... they are declaring today, Aug. 20th as "Way Back Wednesday!" A Small Cheese Pizza- $2.50, PBR, Michelob and Budweiser- 75 cents, Coca-Cola Products 30 cents. Also, all month long, Mellow Mushroom will be hosting a contest for customers to win a trip to Amsterdam for two.

Nocturnal Wildlife
Did you know that Arizona is home to over 60 species of scorpions, including the most dangerous species in the United States, the bark scorpion? Join Arizona Game and Fish Department biologists for an easy evening hike to explore the hidden lives of nocturnal animals at the Hirsch Conservation Education Area, located at the Ben Avery Shooting Facility on Friday, August 22nd from 7:30pm-10pm at the shooting facility, which is just west of I-17 on Carefree Highway in Phoenix. The cost to participate is $15 for adults and $5 for children 10 years and older. No children under 10 years of age will be permitted and all children must be accompanied by an adult
 
Participants should wear long pants and comfortable shoes and bring a flashlight and water.
