DIAPER BANK OF CENTRAL AZ, PROGRAM OF HOMEWARD BOUNDWebsite: www.diaperbankaz.org
Dates: December 1, 2013 - February 15, 2014
Goal: 100,000 diapers and $165,000 to help reach the Diaper Bank's goal to distribute 1,000,000 diapers annually to non-profits across the Valley
Why Diapers: The Baby Diaper drive was originally started to help Homeward Bound moms who found that they could not use their food stamps to purchase diapers. Over the years the Diaper Drive grew and we recently formed the Diaper Bank of Central Arizona as a program of Homeward Bound to share diapers with the many other non-profits across the Valley. By supporting these agencies with diapers, they are able to focus their time and funds on their primary cause and help families reach self-sufficiency.
There are 42,000 children ages 0-3 (diapering ages) who live in poverty here in our own back yard
Federal programs like Food Stamps and WIC do not cover diapers
Childcare providers require parents to have a supply of disposable diapers - no diapers, no daycare, which means no employment for parents
Some who wish to use cloth diapers do not have laundry faculties that allow for the washing of diapers
Ways to Help: Hold a drive at your work, neighborhood, club or school. The Elontec School diaper challenge allows schools across the Valley to compete for collecting the most diapers to win
$2,000 and an ice cream social.
