GESD announces schedule for volunteer fingerprinting opportunities:
The Glendale Elementary School District (GESD) has scheduled monthly fingerprinting opportunities for parents, guardians and community members who would like to participate in school-related volunteer activities.
All fingerprinting sessions will be held at the GlendaleElementary School District Offices, 7301 N. 58th Ave., from 8:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. During the 2012-13 school year, volunteers can be fingerprinted on these dates:
Aug. 15 Jan. 16
Sept. 12 Feb. 13
Oct. 17 March 13
Nov. 14 April 10
Dec. 12 May 8
The safety of GESD students is the primary reason for fingerprinting volunteers. The fingerprint cards are cleared through the Arizona Department of Public Safety. Parents, guardians and community members who want to participate in school-related volunteer activities that require the supervision of children must, according to District policy, be fingerprinted.
Before being fingerprinted, volunteers must fill out a volunteer application at their a GESD school office. Volunteer applicationsmust be signed by either the school's principal or assistant principal. Everyone seeking to be fingerprinted must bring either a valid Arizona Drivers License / ID, or a U.S.
Government-issued ID. Both must include physical descriptions of the ID holder. Volunteer applicants are not eligible to participate in school-related volunteer activities until their volunteer clearance information is distributed to schools. NOTE: It can take up to 10weeks for fingerprints to be cleared, so volunteers need to plan accordingly.

Almond Chicken SaladIngredients:
• 2 tablespoons lemon juice
• 1/2 cup lite mayonnaise or plain yogurt
• 1 /4 cup grapes
• 3 1/2 cups diced chicken
• 1 teaspoon dill weed
• 1/3 cup slivered almonds Directions:
Combine lemon juice lite mayo and dill weed blend well. Toss with chicken, halved grapes and almonds. Serve on bread or crisp lettuce.Serves:
Blueberry Oatmeal Squares
Prep and cook time: 25 minutesIngredients:
• 1½ cups quick oats
• ½ cup whole-wheat flour
• ½ teaspoon baking soda
• ½ teaspoon salt
• 1 teaspoon cinnamon
• ½ cup fresh or frozen blueberries
• 1 egg
• 1 cup skim milk
• 3 tablespoons apple sauce
• ¼ cup brown sugar
Equipment and supplies:
Large mixing bowl
8x8-inch baking pan
Measuring cups and spoons
Preheat oven to 350° F.
Coat baking pan with cooking spray.
Place all of the ingredients into a large bowl and mix until just combined.
Pour into prepared pan and bake for 20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Allow to cool for 5 minutes and cut into squares. Serves:
