QUETTA, Pakistan (AP) — A top Shiite leader says a protest by more than 2,000 people against a bomb attack on a bus has ended after the government assured them protection.

The protesters had blocked a major road in the capital of a restive Baluchistan province with coffins and refused to bury their dead to protest increasing militant violence targeting the minority community.

Some 28 Shiite Pakistanis were killed Tuesday in a suicide bomber attack on their bus.

Abdul Khaliq Hazara said Friday they agreed to end the protest just before midnight Thursday after assurances of protection from the government.

He said the victims would be buried later Friday.
