BANGKOK (AP) — Government officials in Laos say all 49 people aboard a Laos Airlines flight are feared dead after the plane crashed in the Southeast Asian nation.

The Ministry of Public Works and Transport, which operates the airline as a state enterprise, says 44 passengers and five crew members were aboard.

The statement says the flight from the Lao capital, Vientiane, was preparing to land in Pakse, in the country's south, when it ran into bad weather and reportedly crashed into the Mekong River.

The ministry said there was no word of survivors but rescue units were being sent to the site.

It says the plane was carrying passengers from 11 countries. A passenger manifest from the airline lists 44 people: 17 Lao, seven French, five Australians, five Thais, three Koreans, two Vietnamese and one person each from Canada, China, Malaysia, Taiwan and the United States.
