PRETORIA, South Africa (AP) — Olympic and Paralympic track star Oscar Pistorius (pihs-TOHR'-ee-uhs) -- who is now accused in the shooting death of his girlfriend at his home in South Africa early today -- is known to enjoy target shooting with his pistol.
An article last year in the new York Times Magazine described him talking about pulling a pistol to search his home when his alarm went off, the night before the interview. At the suggestion of Pistorius, he and the journalist went to a nearby target range, where they fired at targets with a 9-milimeter pistol. At one point, Pistorius told the writer, "If you practiced, I think you could be pretty deadly."
When Pistorius was asked how often he went target shooting, he replied, "Just sometimes when I can't sleep."
In November of 2011, Pistorius posted a photo of himself at a shooting range on Twitter, and bragged about his score.
