VIENNA (AP) — Austrian legal officials are investigating two members of the rightist FPO party for Facebook postings that reflect pro-Nazi sentiments, with the party announcing that one has resigned after describing German Chancellor Angela Merkel as a "traitor to her fatherland."
The FPO said Wednesday that Fabian Wetter resigned from the party and as alderman of the Upper Austrian town of Franking.
The other official, Michael Linder, remains the head of the party's youth section in the Upper Austrian town of Ried. He is being investigated for postings showing him in a T-shirt with the logo of a neo-Nazi heavy metal group and a citation from a poem popular with the Hitler Youth.
Wetter also posted a photo-montage of Merkel displaying a Star of David. Expressing pro-Nazi sentiments is illegal in Austria.
