LAGOS, Nigeria (AP) — Nigeria's state-run television broadcaster has aired a video showing the nation's first lady weeks after she disappeared from public view over an illness.
The Nigerian Television Authority reported Monday that President Goodluck Jonathan had gone to Germany to visit his wife Patience Jonathan, without saying why she was there. The video showed the first lady standing and smiling as she hugged her children and husband. The state broadcaster did not say when the video was shot.
In September, Patience Jonathan disappeared from public view. Authorities have refused to say publicly why she left the country. An official later told The Associated Press the first lady fell ill with "food poisoning" and needed to be hospitalized in Germany. It is unclear why she remains there.
