COCONINO NATIONAL FOREST, Ariz. -- Highway 87 has been reopened to the public.
Fire officials decided to close the road on Saturday after the ongoing Canyon Fire spotted across Highway 87 in some places.
Firefighters were eventually able to extinguish the spot fires and have held the fire to the west of Highway 87.
The Canyon Fire, which was started by lightning, has been burning about 15 miles northeast of Blue Ridge Reservoir since Friday. The flames cover 5,000 acres.
No structures have been threatened by the fire, and no evacuations have been ordered.
