PHOENIX -- A Declaration of Emergency was issued on Wednesday in response to the ongoing Gladiator Fire.

The declaration will provide $10,000 from the Governor’s Emergency Fund to support emergency response and recovery expenses.

The Yavapai County Board of Supervisors requested the Declaration of Emergency.

Governor Jan Brewer went on an aerial tour of the Gladiator Fire last week. She has also been briefed on the fire by incident commanders.

The Gladiator Fire covers 16,240 acres of the Prescott National Forest, as of Wednesday night. Six structures have been destroyed by the blaze, while residents of Crown King and the areas of Battle Flat, Pine Flat, and Turkey Creek are under an evacuation order.

The Gladiator Fire has been burning since May 13. It was started by a structure fire on private property.
