KINGMAN, Ariz. (AP) -- Authorities say firefighters have been able to keep two neighborhoods in northwestern Arizona safe as a wildfire continues to burn in the mountains outside of Kingman.
The Dean Peak Fire has burned more than 8 square miles in the Hualapai Mountains. It remained 0 percent contained Thursday morning.
Crews were prepared for another day of hot, windy weather. Their plan was to strengthen existing fire lines and fuel breaks in the subdivisions of Pinion Pines and Pine Lake.
Officials say the evacuation order for the two neighborhoods remain in place, and the Wild Cow Campground will remain closed until further notice.
On Wednesday, changing wind forced the evacuation of about 200 more homes in the hill country. About 150 homes in other areas were evacuated earlier this week.
