PHOENIX -- The new Star Trek video game is now on the market. On Friday night, a  mobile game truck will make a stop in the Valley to invite people to play Star Trek: The Video Game for free.

Gamers who go will also receive a special-edition poster that will only be available at the event, while supplies last. All attendees will also have the opportunity to enter for a chance to win VIP seats to see the highly anticipated film release of Star Trek Into Darkness. The game truck will be at Tempe MarketPlace Friday, April 26, 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The highly anticipated Star Trek: The Video Game  brings back an old foe from the TV show. -- an updated version of the Gorn to battle the  legendary duo Kirk and Spock. Players take on the roles of Kirk and Spock, who work together to get to the heart of a mysterious attack by an enemy with unimaginable strength.  The game is an  entirely original story, written by BAFTA Award-winner Marianne Krawczyk. It's sort of a buffer between the first movie and the second.

In the game, the Gorn is a terrifying threat with an army that could overwhelm Kirk, Spock and the crew of the Enterprise.

The voices of Kirk and Spock are done by the movie actors and the music is also done by the people who scored the film. “Star Trek” fans may also notice that some of the story lines and dialog are inspired by previous Star Trek films and classic episodes.

Game players can choose to play through the game as Kirk or as Spock, but only as a team can the mission be completed. Just as in “Star Trek,” things are easier when you have a teammate to help, so while gamers can play solo and let the computer control the other character, the game experience is really enhanced when two people take on the roles of Kirk and Spock and play together.

The game is available for XBox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.  It's out this week in anticipation of the movie, which opens May 17.
