CHANDLER, Ariz. -- A standoff between a man and police at a home lasted about three hours Monday morning.

It happened on Arroyo Drive near Dobson and Queen Creek roads.

It started at about a 4:00 a.m. with some type of domestic violence situation. Witnesses said a female was taken from the home in an ambulance.

Several residents were evacuated for about an hour.

Police could be heard over a loudspeaker ordering the man to come out of the home.

"My wife heard the police over the bullhorn, calling the gentleman to come out," says neighbor Ken Hawthorne.

When he refused to come out, the SWAT team responded and apparently used some type of concussion grenade to startle the individual.

"We actually had a SWAT team come to our door and said we needed to evacuate the property," says Hawthorne.

The suspect was taken into custody at about 7:00 a.m.
