PHOENIX  -- If you haven't heard of her yet, you will. Rising basketball star Brittney Griner is taking the hardwood by storm, and she's expected to heat things up for the Phoenix Mercury.

Griner has been on a non-stop tour since the Mercury drafted her No. 1 overall in the WNBA draft last week. The 6'8" player (with a 7'4" wingspan!) is the first NCAA player to score 2000 points and block 500 shots.

On Monday's Good Morning Arizona, Javier Soto asked her how it felt to be the Mercury's first draft pick. "It felt amazing," she says. "I kind of froze in the moment and couldn't speak at all, and couldn't form a sentence at the time. It was amazing."

Griner caused a stir when she matter-of-factly came out as gay in her first press conference as a professional basketball player. "I just wanted to be able to show the young generation to be who you are, and be comfortable in your own skin," she says.

Griner starts camp May 5, and says she hopes folks will turn out to watch the Mercury season home opener on Monday, May 27 at US Airways Center, when the team takes on the Chicago Sky.
