PHOENIX -- Perfect pizza doesn't just happen! Experts tell us the trick to making a good pie starts with the dough, and how you toss the crust,
Jamie Culliton is not only an expert in creating the perfect dough for Grimaldi's Pizzerias, he's also a U.S. Champion dough thrower, and travels competitively in the dough-throwing circuit.
On Thursday's Good Morning Arizona, Jaime told Javier Soto and Kaley O'Kelley that creating good dough is a science. "Dough's a living thing," he tells us. "It's definitely a little different than most cooking."
Jaime showed off some of his techniques, starting with pressing out the air in the dough, which makes for a nice, thin crust.
Next, Jamie stretched out the dough, and gave it a few tosses high in the air. He even showed off some of his best ticks on a practice dough.
"I've been in the business for about 18 years," Jaime says. "I just stumbled across it one day and just started competing."
Grimaldi's is celebrating its 10th anniversary here in the valley this weekend with a birthday party to benefit Phoenix Children's Hospital. A $3 donation gains you access to the festivities, with all of the proceeds going to PCH. Featured activities include interactive games, pizza-eating competitions, and a designated kids area.
That all takes place Sunday, Feb. 24, from 11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m at Grimaldi's Pizzeria in Old Town Scottsdale, which is located at 4000 N. Scottsdale Rd. For more information you can visit the Grimaldi's website.
