ANTHEM, Ariz. -- A few families lost almost everything after Tuesday's storm in Anthem dumped five inches of rain in a little more than an hour.
The block wall in Jeannette Feeley's backyard busted under the pressure and flood waters surged through her yard and home, decimating everything it touched.
"The hard part is the stuff you can't get back, my photo albums from my childhood," said Feeley, who's lived in the home for six years and was planning to move in just a few months.
Her Bible and dinner lay as she left it on the couch, but everything else appeared damaged.
Feeley doesn't have flood insurance, and will have to pay for the damage herself -- her home will likely be condemned.
Next door, Rene Vides also suffered similar destruction.
"It was raining very strong, I was outside making trenches so the water could go out that way," said Vides. "I told my neighbor [Jeannette] to get out of the house and she decided to see what I was talking about."
"I heard a crack and all of a sudden all of this water came at me and I started screaming for Rene to come help me," said Feeley.
But the water was headed for Vides too.
"I grabbed onto the hot tub which started floating and it sucked me under," said Feeley, who started swimming for her life, but eventually went under.
Somehow Feeley managed to get onto her other neighbor's 9-foot fence, and then to the other side.
Wednesday, the focus was on getting her bearings - and in many ways, starting over.
"I was cold last night and I thought, 'I'll go get a pair of socks' and I don't even have socks. It's really hard to process that," said Feeley.
"I worked very hard for all this. I worked two jobs the last 10 years, it's just hard to take right now," said Vides.
Still, Feeley said she's grateful no one died in the storm that provided more rain than Phoenix has seen for more than a year.
"I believe this stuff is just stuff. And there's a greater purpose in life than just your things," said Feeley.
