TEMPE, Ariz. -- The monsoon hit fast and hard in the East Valley Sunday evening leaving trees down, power poles knocked over, and roofs blown off.

People in that area are now surveying the damage.

The microburst did quite a number near 71st and Warner Rd.

Several trees block 71st street, and they took power lines with them.

Behind one of the downed power lines a family looked at the damage to their roof.

The wind knocked off part of their roof and pieces flew into neighbors' yards.

"It's like a little war zone out here,” said Jennifer Neese, who lives in the neighborhood.

Neese said her roof was also affected by the storm.

"These poles all went down and the whole roof collapsed like that," she said.

Just a few miles away near Kyrene Rd. and Elliot Rd., Tempe police directed traffic after the wind knocked over trees and traffic lights onto the middle of the street.

"Across the street we saw some tree stuff falling," said Gianna Glover.

"It was kind of scary because the cars had to get around it," said Linnea Berggren.

Cathy Miller said she was driving home from the grocery store to this area.
"Over on Ray Road and we were trying to count how many trees were down; there were so many down that we couldn't even count," said Miller.

It’s something Miller said she's never seen before.

"Not this bad. No, definitely not," said Miller.
