SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- The 11K run billed as the “hottest race on earth” saw three people taken to the hospital after the heat got to them.

However, none of the medical situations were life threatening according to emergency workers standing by at the race.

The race is formally called the Scottsdale Beat the Heat Race, held on the anniversary of the Valley of the Sun’s record setting 122 degree day back in 1990.

More than 1,000 hard core runners from more than half the states and parts of Europe braved temps in the low to mid 100s at race time.

Because of the extreme conditions, all runners signed a waiver.  Medical personnel and cooling stations were also scattered along the seven mile route for runner safety.
