PHOENIX -- Investigators converged on a West Valley neighborhood after an operation by the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office ended in gunfire Thursday morning.
I happened at about 6:30 a.m. MCSO spokesman Sgt. Brandon Jones said deputies were serving a search warrant at a home near 51st Avenue and Bell Road when somebody opened fire. It's not known how many shots were fired or if deputies deployed their weapons.
Details are still developing, but Tammy Rose reported from the news chopper that at least one person -- not a deputy -- was brought out of the home on a gurney and taken to a local hospital.
According to the Phoenix Fire Department, the victim is a 57-year-old man. His injuries reportedly are life-threatening.
It's not clear if that person was a suspect or how he might have been connected to the search.
Aerial video showed four people sitting on the sidewalk, waiting for investigators to question them. At least two of them were handcuffed.
Ground video showed dozens of SWAT officers in full gear milling around an armored MCSO vehicle.
No information about the search warrant was immediately available.
Jones said no deputies were injured.
