On July 27, 2007 at exactly 12:46:20pm MST, KTVK's NewsChopper 3 was involved in a mid-air collision when local ABC affiliate KNXV-TV's helicopter struck it from behind. The collision occurred above Steele Indian School Park, near Third Street and Indian School Road, while both aircraft were covering a police car pursuit in downtown Phoenix. All four people on both helicopters were killed, including KTVK pilot Scott Bowerbank and photographer Jim Cox.
