FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) -- A cold spring storm that blew into Arizona dropped up to a foot of snow in Flagstaff and some snow as far south as Prescott.

The snow covered much of the northern and eastern part of the state. National Weather Service meteorologist Chris Outler in Flagstaff said it was winding down and leaving the state Saturday evening. Scattered showers could continue in the mountains through Sunday morning.

Besides the 8 to 12 inches that fell in Flagstaff, Outler says Prescott got 2 to 5 inches, Payson 3 inches, and from 3 to 8 inches in eastern Arizona's White Mountains.

Isolated rain showers were expected in Phoenix and Tucson throughout the day, but little materialized.

The storm should quickly leave the state, with improving conditions on Sunday.
