PHOENIX – Char's Has The Blues, a dive bar in central Phoenix, feels like a good ole' house party, with an amazing wedding band, filled with old friends you just haven't met yet.
The bottom line: You will have a great time dancing to soulful music until the soles of your feet hurt.
It is unassuming from the outside and nestled in what looks like a 1950s cottage, once you step inside, you are home. They do not "sweat" you at the door. Just pay a small cover fee and a fun time awaits you. But be prepared, it will be packed, which is a good thing.
Depending on the night, you will hear a wide variety of live music from R&B, blues, funk, reggae, gospel, soul or a mix of all of them. You will find yourself singing to songs you grew up on (or your parents played on their record players) and you will hear great songs you've forgotten but are pleasantly surprised to jam to.
Not that you need a reason to work up a sweat on the dance floor, but when it's April Warnecke's birthday, you go!
Lady J was the songstress of the evening and kept the party going and the dance floor packed. Next time you get the itch to move, I say, head to Char's Has the Blues.
