SURPRISE, Ariz. -- A Surprise woman barricaded herself in a home on the 15400 west block of Mauna Loa Lane around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday evening.

Police say this started as a domestic disturbance but quickly escalated to a SWAT situation. Police were able to see the woman had a gun in the home, and that lead SWAT to sweep the neighborhood and get people living in the homes next door out of there.

There were other friends and family in that home at the time this all started, and police are talking to them about a possible motive.

Negotiators threw a phone into the home, trying to talk to her, but she did not pick up. The next move was to break a window and put a robot inside the home to check it out.

Just before 10:30 p.m., officers launched gas inside the home, and a short time later the woman finally came out.

She is now in the custody of Surprise police.
