PHOENIX -- Volunteers spent Sunday at the 52nd Street Armory, where they distributed some of the 2,200 food boxes "earmarked for needy families of Arizona’s wounded, deployed and active soldiers to make sure our nation’s heroes will have all the trimmings for a traditional holiday meal – as well as extra food to fill their pantries."

It's all part of St. Mary's Food Bank's Turkeys for Troops program, which serves Arizona's military families.

In addition to food boxes, families were given gift cards donated by the University of Phoenix.

On behalf of those who make it possible with their donations, it is our honor for St. Mary’s Food Bank Alliance to salute these Arizona heroes and their families and make sure they have a full holiday meal to share with their loved ones,” St. Mary’s Food Bank President and CEO Terry Shannon on the St. Mary's Food Bank blog. “To all our fighting men and women both here and around the world, our best wishes for a Happy Thanksgiving.”
