TEMPE, Ariz. --  It started so well, but ended so badly Thursday night for the Arizona State University football team. In a nationally televised game against the No. 3 Oregon Ducks, they got out to an early lead, then got clobbered.

Fans knew that this might be a tough battle, but there were many who believed -- really believed -- there was a chance ASU could take down the Ducks. There was plenty optimism earlier in the evening in Sun Devil Nation, with tailgaters gearing up for what they hoped would be a hard-fought battle.

With that first ASU touchdown it looked like the Devils were playing to win, then Oregon scored multiple times and it was more like playing for pride. Then it just got ugly and that sent fans out of the stadium, back to their cars and out of here heartbroken.

As you might imagine, the many Oregon fans are leaving as confident as ever. So, this one might hurt a bit. But there's always next weekend, which is ASU Homecoming against UCLA.
