PHOENIX -- Police are searching for a man who sexually assaulted a woman on Thursday night.
The alleged brutal attack happened at a Phoenix residence near Seventh Street and Indian School Road.
According to what the 56-year-old victim told police, the man brutally beat her, sexually assaulted her and forced her to drink bleach.
The victim told police the man got into her apartment through an unlocked rear door.
Police said the suspect left the apartment sometime after the attack.
Shortly after 8 a.m. on Friday, a taxi driver knocked on the victim's door. She mumbled for help as she was still bound, gagged, bruised and naked.
"I know her, and I heard her say 'help, help,'" said neighbor Carli Peterson.
"She was outside her front door, completely nude, and her hands were tied behind her back," Peterson said. "There were two scarves around her mouth. She was totally gagged and tied up with bruises all over."
Witnesses provided aid until emergency responders arrived. The victim was taken to a hospital where she is recovering from non-life threatening injuries.
When asked if this is an isolated incident, Sgt. Tommy Thompson with the Phoenix Police Department said, "We don't have any other similar reports in the area. This is the only known incident we have of this kind. Any time we have a sexual assault, we always look around in the area."
Police said the suspect is described as an African-American male, 20 to 25 years old with a medium height and build, and dread lock-style hair down to his shoulders.
