PHOENIX – Arizona republican lawmakers unveiled a plan to trim the budget at a seventh special session on Monday.

Under their plan, the programs “Healthcare through AHCCCS," "Kids Care” coverage and all-day kindergarten would disappear. The plan also calls for pay cuts and furloughs for state employees.

Democrats say they do not like it. House Minority Leader David Lujan says he thinks voters should be more involved in the process. He says, “When you're going through a budget of this magnitude we owe it to the people of Arizona. Voters are being completely shut out."

The public will be asked to vote on a temporary sales tax increase on May 18. If that tax is voted down, legislators would have to cut $800 million more from the budget.
