PHOENIX (AP) — Services throughout state government would be cut, eliminated or otherwise affected under Gov. Jan Brewer's budget proposal to close looming shortfalls in the current and next fiscal years.

Brewer wants voters to roll back an eligibility increase for the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System to take 310,000 people off that Medicaid program.

Other proposed cuts include eliminating state funding for all-day kindergarten and abolishing the KidsCare health care program. And other social services and K-12 education programs would be reduced and eliminated.

Brewer also wants legislators to repeal the state law mandating services for the seriously mentally ill but still provide intervention and housing services as well as medication for those now covered.
