SAN DIEGO (AP) — At least six people have filed papers to run for San Diego mayor in the aftermath of the sexual harassment scandal that toppled Bob Filner.

Denise Jenkins of the city clerk's office says former state assemblyman Nathan Fletcher is among those who registered paperwork by midday Monday declaring their intentions to run.

Fletcher and a conservative underdog candidate, Tobiah Pettus, both lost to Filner in the 2012 race.

The city is required to hold a special election 90 days from Friday, the day Filner has agreed to vacate his job.

Filner's resignation emerged from settlement talks in a sexual harassment lawsuit filed by the mayor's former aide, Irene McCormack Jackson.

The lawsuit has not been settled. Meanwhile, another city employee filed a similar claim Monday.
