SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) — State officials say more time is needed to finish canvassing results of the general election but it appears that recounts could be required in two tight legislative races.

State Bureau of Elections Director Bobbi Shearer said Monday that final election tallies won't be ready for Tuesday's meeting of the state Canvassing Board, which is made up of the governor, the secretary of state and the Supreme Court chief justice.

Shearer said the secretary of state's office is still reconciling discrepancies in some county election results.

She said it's expected the board will agree on Tuesday to reconvene at a later date to receive the final election tallies.

State law requires recounts in races in which the margin between the top candidates is less than one-half of 1 percent.
