PHOENIX -- Phoenix Police is asking for the public’s help in finding the person responsible for fatally shooting a man on Christmas night.

According to authorities, police officers and fire personnel responded to the area of 18200 N. 28th Street just before midnight in response to a single vehicle collision.

Officers arrived to find a blue 1997 Ford Explorer on its side after striking a tree.

Police spoke with a witness and learned that the driver, later identified as 23-year-old Nathan Dewitt, had crawled out of the vehicle and claimed that he had been shot.

Dewitt was taken to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Police are still trying to determine what happened prior to Dewitt’s death, but they believe he may have been at a party before he crashed his vehicle.

Anyone with any information is asked to the Phoenix Police Department Violent Crimes Bureau at 602-262-6141 or Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS.
