PHOENIX -- They say that necessity is the mother of invention. That certainly holds true for one valley mother, who turned a necessity for her baby into a booming business!
It's called Toe Blooms, a line of decorative foot wraps to dress up a baby’s feet. They fit tiny fashionistas from newborn to 12 months, and can be worn on bare feet or over socks.
Company founder Hallie House came up with the idea when she couldn't find cute shoes that would fit or stay on her baby daughter's feet.
"She was about six months old, and it was in the summertime when it was incredibly hot," say House. "I couldn't find sandals that either wouldn't squish her feet, or if they weren't tight, they were falling off."
So one thing led to another, and the business Toe Blooms was born. They look like sandals but they don't restrict little feet. They're also 100 percent cotton and can go in the washing machine.
House's story is a good example of how anyone can take a creative idea and turn it into a business.
"I just did it," says House. "I didn't know what I was doing, but I just went out there, I got the product in front of people, and they loved it."
The products are available in two styles: Blooming Toes (which loop around the toe) and Blooming Wraps (which wrap around the foot). Right now they're available in about 850 stores nationwide. You can also find them at www.toeblooms.com. They are listed for for $24.99.
