PHOENIX -- This month's edition of Phoenix Home & Garden is all about getting creative with your kitchen.
Kaley visited the kitchen of Mary Emmerling, who has written dozens of books about design. She suggests using antiques with modern elements.
"Country modern is the way to go," says Emmerling. "You get a little bit of the stainless steel or white enamel with the wonderful patina of an antique piece."
Another tip in creating a beautiful kitchen is to always keep it simple. "First you have to walk out your space," says Emmerling. "If your table's too far away, if your pantry's too far away, you're not going to use it." Also use a tape measure to measure out your space before buying items for the room
Emmerling says you shouldn't be afraid to remove or add walls, or re-purpose furniture for different uses. But one cost-cutting measure is to leave your appliances where they are.
Finally, you need to have a great worktable. You can also add a bottom shelf to that table for more storage.
