.PHOENIX -- She may be a household name now, but it hasn't always been that way for so-called "mom-preneur" Kendra Scott.
What began as just an idea that blossomed in head has now turned into an amazing career. These days, Scott is trying to encourage other women to dream big as well.
"People always ask, are you a CEO or a designer first?" Kendra said on Monday's Good Morning Arizona. "And I always correct them and say, I'm a mom first."
Scott is a jewelry designer and mother of two, with a third child on the way. But even though celebrities now flaunt her designs on the red carpet, it hasn't always been that way.
"So, literally, in the very beginning, I made everything myself by hand," Scott says. "The production, we shipped out of my dining room! It really was the epitome of a start-up."
"That first collection, I took in a tea box, with my son in a Baby Bjorn," she remembers. "I went store to store in Austin, Texas and I actually had to sell all of my samples so that I'd have enough money to produce the orders that I had written."
Fast forward 11 years. Today, Kendra's designs are offered in 1,000 stores worldwide. And Kendra says while it takes a lot of work, it's something any woman could achieve.
"In today's economy, there are many women who are out of work; it's a very difficult time," she says. "I just want to tell them to not be afraid. I think that fear sometimes just stops us from doing things, and you'll never know if you don't give it a chance, if you don't try."
Scott also advises women to find strong mentors with similar goals and morals.
