PHOENIX -- One of several big St. Patrick's Day parties is happening at Rosie McCaffrey's and the party there got started very early.

"I got here wee early at about 5:45, I got the first pint," said Marney Redmond, who was wearing her kilt and drinking Irish beer, which she said is a must every St. Patrick’s Day. "It is tradition, celebrating family and friends and just love of the Irish community and just being Irish."

John O’Coldebella took it to the next level, dressing up head to toe as a lucky leprechaun.

"I’ve been doing this for 30 years," he said.

Live music, Irish step dancing, food, and, of course, plenty of Guinness and Irish Whiskey, makes up a proper St. Patrick's Day celebration.

Another theme this year is "Honoring our Heroes" and remembering Phoenix police Detective John Hobbs, who was recently killed in the line of duty.

"We have a fundraiser going creating these shirts to support his family and the Emerald Society designed the shirt, but we brought in input from his squad mates and his friends to help create the logo and make a shirt that John would be proud of," said Erin Sweeney with the Arizona Law Enforcement Emerald Society. The shirts are $20.

Green is the color for St. Patrick's Day, so if you head out to any of the celebrations, you can’t go wrong with that. The party at Rosie McCaffrey’s on Camelback Road near Ninth Street is on until 2 a.m.
