SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Hikers, mountain bikers and horseback riders have a new place to explore at the McDowell Sonoran Preserve.
On Monday, the Brown's Ranch Trailhead opened in the northern region of the mountain, by Alma School Parkway and Dynamite Boulevard. The trail has been a work in progress for three years and cost $3.8 million to create.
The path is a home base for exploring more than 50 miles of trails, including paths to Brown's Mountain and other terrain. With the addition of Brown's Ranch, Scottsdale owns 14,800 acres of the northern region of the McDowell Sonoran Preserve.
Monday's opening was an informal "soft" opening at sunrise. The grand opening will be held on Oct. 19.
