PHOENIX -- Fire investigators say a 10-year-old boy who was playing with a lighter started a house fire that left one man dead in Maryvale.

Firefighters were called to a two-story home in the neighborhood of 35th Avenue and McDowell Road at about 9:30 p.m. Sunday.

According to firefighters, 11 people, five of them children, were living in the home. Ten of those people escaped unharmed.

The victim, a man in his late 40s, was a visitor who had been staying at the home for some time. His name has not been released. Firefighters reportedly found his body after the fire was out. They found the man in a back bedroom.

The house was fully engulfed in flames when crews arrived on the scene. Those firefighters said several rooms had been added to the original structure.

The Phoenix Fire Department's crisis team and the Red Cross are helping the people who lived in the home.

Because someone died, the Phoenix police are now involved to determine an exact cause of death.
