KARTCHNER CAVERNS - Vandals break into Kartchner Caverns State Park.
The caverns in southern Arizona are famous for their amazing underground rock formations.
Somebody broke in Sunday night and went climbing all over the rocks. There is some damage to some of the stalactites.
Ellen Bilbrey, with the State Park Service, says that with all the cutbacks lately they do not have the time or money to deal with vandals. "At this time right now, we have no budget. We have about 50% of our staff has been laid off at the cave. In that park actually...so what these people did...or person did...they will be prosecuted to the fullest when they are caught."
A team will head into the caverns on Tuesday to check everything out and estimate the damage. The vandals could face felony charges.
